The Placement Officer elicits, obtains, and makes experiential learning placements for Faculty of Education (FOE) students. 
 
As the Placement Officer, you will:
 
  • Negotiates the day-to-day activities and long term priorities of the Practicum Office;
  • Ensure each placement meets division and subject area needs of students; 
  • Ensure appropriate match of student to placement, working with faculty, chair and directors to address specific needs as required; 
  • Communicate regularly with students and with practicum advisors involved with placement supervision. 
  • Seek placements in the Ontario public school system, as well as in alternative, out-of-region, outdoor, museum, Montessori, international, business, or community organizations; 
  • Liaise with schools, school board personnel, and other organizations to recruit associate teachers, ensure expectations are understood, and determine suitability of placements; 
  • Maintain ongoing communication with relevant and related partners; 
  • Attend relevant placement meetings;
  • Ensure the smooth, coordinated, and efficient operation of the placement process; 
  • Monitor expectations and responsibilities of alternate placements with FOE Department Directors; 
  • Monitor and refine placement protocol and practice for approval by relevant committees; seek input from community and school-based partners; 
  • Ensure that accredited aspects of placements are satisfied and meet the accreditation standards set by the Ontario College of Teachers; 
  • Update practicum related messaging, ensuring information being sent to teacher candidates, practicum advisors, and associate teachers is up-to-date;
  • Collaborate with practicum advisors, directors, and the university Student Accessibility Services Office to ensure optimal placement outcomes;
  • Maintain current and updated information on placements resources.
 
What you need to Succeed…
 
  • Undergraduate degree in Education and a current or past certification with the Ontario College of Teachers, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Two to four years of experience with education administration; 
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Education and Ontario College of Teachers guidelines for student placements; 
  • Familiarity with the Ontario public school system and alternative educational organizations; 
  • Ability to identify problems and deal with difficult situations by probing for information, analyzing complex issues, and developing solutions for unique situations;
  • Knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of experiential learning and curricular learning; 
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality;  
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously under minimal supervision;
  • Strong computer skills and competency with spreadsheets, email, word processing, and database software packages;
  • Service oriented with exceptional interpersonal skills; 
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships. 
 
Preferred or Asset Skills:
 
  • Graduate degree in education.
 
Salary and Benefit Information
 
  • Salary Range: K $51,726- $69,641
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage and tuition waiver.
